MIAMI BEACH URBAN STUDIOS

The Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) is the vision of the Florida International University, College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA). Headquartered in the iconic 420 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, MBUS is a creative space for students and the community in the heart of one of the most vibrant artistic urban centers in the world. The presentation of work by MBUS is titled, Portraits from Within, and is viewable from the Washington Gallery windows, while passing the space on 1618 Washington Avenue. The exhibition title, has many layers; it references that the portraits are of people living in the Miami-Dade community, the idea that the viewer can only see the portraits from outside the gallery without an opportunity to enter the space, and the psychological aspects of being isolated during the great lockdown. Students Tori Scott and Joaquin Stacey created the works to complete their BFA coursework for the Spring 2020 semester.
